Tandoori Tofu
The highly rich tofu is something most of the vegeterian’s love. 99% of the times I land up making the usual stir fry tofu or fried rice or in some noodles. Last I tried was adding it to my sandwich which was a hit. This time I wanted to try something Indian with tofu. Like most of you I thought that this is not a good choice but went on to try this experimental adventure called Tandoori tofu.
In a bowl mix the following spices to make a tandoori masala paste (you can use readymade tandoori masala as well):
Red chilli powder -1 tsp
Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
Cummin powder - 2 tsp
Black pepper - 1/2 tsp
Ginger powder - 1/2 tsp
Garam masala - 1 tsp
Corriander powder - 1 tsp
Chaat masala - 1/2 tsp
Amchur powder - few pinches
Lemon juice - few drops
Salt - as needed
Oil- 1 tsp
Water as needed
Cut small cubes of tofu and add this masala paste. Mix slowly but well making sure the tofu doesn’t break.
Seal this bowl with a wrap and refrigerate it for couple hours.
Microwave the mixture for about 5-6 minutes and set aside. You can also put it in the oven for about 10-15 minutes making sure it does not get too crunchy.
For the gravy:
Onions - 1 onion
Ginger - few small pieces grated
Garlic - 1 tsp grated
Tomato’s - 1-2 depending on size
Bell Pepper - 1
Corn Starch - 1 tsp
In a pan, add chopped onions, ginger and garlic
Sauté this mixture well until it turns golden brown.
Add chopped bell peppers and sauté them.
Make a puree of tomatoes and add to the onion garlic mixture
In a bowl add a tsp of corn starch and 4 tsp of water and make a paste
Add the corn starch paste to the gravy and let it simmer for 1 minute
Finally, add the tandoori tofu to the gravy and simmer for 2-3 mnitues.
